Alcalá de Henares cierra parques y baliza accesos al río Henares por lluvias

The Alcalá de Henares City Council has closed access to flood-prone areas of the municipality «as a precautionary and safety measure for residents» due to the rising water levels of the Henares River following the heavy rains experienced in recent days.

This information was shared by the City Council through a social media post, stating that the local police have marked off access points along the riverbank «to prevent risks» in the most exposed areas, which will be regulated «based on how the situation evolves.»

Heavy rains lead to water release in nine out of thirteen Madrid dams

Among the measures agreed upon in the emergency coordination meeting, chaired by Mayor Judith Piquet, is the closure of all city parks this Saturday due to the forecast of strong winds and water accumulation on the ground.

Recommendations for rain alert

The Alcalá City Council has shared a series of recommendations with the population, such as avoiding unnecessary travel near the river; not crossing flooded areas or attempting to pass through water accumulations; following instructions from authorities and emergency services; and not parking vehicles in flood-prone areas.

Additionally, it has advised refraining from using the dirt parking lot in Nueva Alcalá, as well as avoiding the Parque de los Cerros, «since water accumulation and possible ground instability can pose a risk to visitors.»
