The arrival of spring triggers allergies: How to combat them?
TIPS FOR ALLERGY SUFFERERS
Pollen concentrations in the atmosphere are higher in the early morning and late afternoon, increasing sharply on days with strong winds and spring storms with high electrical activity.
It is important for the allergic person to know the type of pollen that triggers their reaction, the periods of the year when the corresponding plants pollinate, the concentration in the air, and if possible, the predicted levels.
Likewise, it is essential to follow the medication as prescribed by a physician and, in any case, avoid contact of these plant-origin particles with the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, and eyes, using sunglasses and masks, and frequently washing with fresh water or saline solution.
The Community of Madrid reminds that antihistamine medications can cause drowsiness and decreased attention, which should be taken into account when driving and engaging in other activities that require concentration.
It is recommended to travel by car with closed windows, avoiding, if possible, traveling by motorcycle or bicycle.
In homes, it is advisable to use a vacuum cleaner and damp cloths to clean dust and prevent the proliferation of dust mites, as well as to use pollen filters in the air conditioning of homes and vehicles.
