
The director of theater, playwright, and professor José Luis Alonso de Santos (Valladolid, 1942) will receive the Premio Fuente de Castalia, an award granted by the City Council of Alcalá and the Community of Madrid to recognize all those individuals and entities that have excelled in the recovery of classical theater.
The award ceremony will take place within the framework of the Hispanic-American Golden Age Festival ‘Clásicos en Alcalá’ which will kick off on June 13th, where Alonso de Santos will premiere a version of Miguel de Cervantes’ ‘Numancia’.
José Luis Alonso de Santos is not only a stage director but also the author of fifty works, including well-known titles such as ‘Bajarse al Moro’, ‘La estanquera de Vallecas’, ‘El álbum familiar’, ‘La sombra del Tenorio’, ‘La cena de los generales’, ‘En el oscuro corazón del bosque’, and ‘Mil amaneceres’.

Regarding his work in directing, he has a repertoire of forty plays, many of his own, but also from classic authors such as Plautus, Calderón, Lope de Vega, Shakespeare, Valle Inclán, or Arniches.
He has also been a professor of Dramatic Writing, director of the Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Madrid, of the Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico, and president of the Academy of Performing Arts of Spain.
His career has been recognized with awards such as the National Theater Award, the Tirso de Molina Award, the Letters of Castilla y León Award, the Community of Madrid Award, and several Max Awards, including the honorary one.
