The arrival of spring awakens allergies: How to combat them?
TIPS FOR ALLERGY SUFFERERS
Pollen concentrations in the atmosphere are higher in the early morning and late afternoon, and increase sharply on days with strong winds and spring storms with high electrical activity.
It is important for allergy sufferers to know the type of pollen that triggers their reaction, the periods of the year when corresponding plants pollinate, the concentration in the air, and, if possible, the predicted levels.
Likewise, it is essential to follow the medication prescribed by a healthcare provider and, in any case, avoid contact of these plant particles with the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, and eyes, using sunglasses and masks, and frequently washing with fresh water or saline solution.
The Community of Madrid reminds that antihistamine medications can cause drowsiness and reduced attention, which must be taken into account when driving or engaging in activities that require concentration.
It is recommended to travel by car with closed windows, avoiding, if possible, travel by motorcycle or bicycle.
In homes, it is advised to use a vacuum cleaner and damp cloths to clean dust and prevent the proliferation of dust mites, as well as to use pollen filters in the air conditioning systems of homes and vehicles.
