The Mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Judith Piquet, announced on Telemadrid that in the next municipal council meeting, the Popular Party will formally request the closure of the Center for Emergency, Shelter, and Referral at the ‘Primo de Rivera’ Barracks: «I need to restore normalcy in my town and for that reason, I announce that I will request the closure of the immigrant center.»
Furthermore, she expressed her support for the victim and her family after the arrest that took place on Wednesday and emphasized that municipal resources were activated from the very beginning. «A family that has suffered greatly, that has endured an irreparable harm and deserves justice and full support from their city,» she said.

According to Piquet, the call for closure is a demand in response to the lack of immigration management by the Central Government that ultimately harms municipalities: «For 20 months, we have been suffering in Alcalá de Henares due to the immigration issue, the problem of the Central Government’s mismanagement in immigration matters. Pedro Sánchez’s government is not addressing the migration problem. They have a migration chaos that, evidently, they are transferring to municipalities.»
She added, «Initially, in a call from the Government Delegate, who obviously, as always, lied to us, we were told that this center would accommodate about 100 people and would be a temporary space. Well, in these 20 months, we have already had more than 10,100 people pass through that center.»

Lastly, Piquet expressed her appreciation to the State Security Forces and Bodies for their «swift action» that led to the arrest of an individual allegedly involved in the sexual assault that occurred last Saturday in the vicinity of the Emergency Shelter and Referral Center (CAED).
